Four Things Friday

I know I said I was going to take a break from blogging this week, but I couldn’t help myself: I had to share these great finds from around the Web with y’all!

Have  a great weekend!

1. I am dying to paint a wall in a gingham pattern! This tutorial looks pretty simple!

2. I love how this guest room looks like a train car! So fun!

3. These clever posters are perfect for a kitchen. So humorous!

4. I want to make these votives wrapped in cornhusks. They are so beautiful!

Look What We Found!

My love for thrift stores and “the hunt” for bargains on home goods came from my mom (cue the song “I Get It From My Mama”). She is often “popping in” to thrift stores, garage sales, and antique shops to see what treasures she might find.

On a trip to a local church-run thrift store, Mama found this amazing couch. It’ s about eight feet long and the wood detail needs to be painted (I’m thinking white), but I actually love the fabric color and pattern! It’s a pale blue, almost mint-y color with a subtle diamond pattern. The shape is so neat…I’m obsessed!

I’m going to do some intense research to determine what style this couch is; I’m thinking it’s very Victorian since the shape and wood detailing is reminiscent of that time period.

It would be great to put in a large living room atop layered rugs. The best part is it was only $165.00! I’m sure it would cost a lot more had it been at an estate sale or antiques shop.

Fabric Color and Pattern

Do y’all have any ideas for how I should paint it and/or reupholster it? I’d love suggestions!

A Stitch in Time: Behind the Bargello ‘Flame’ Stitch

I have recently fallen in love with Bargello needlework, a design that is also known as a “flame stitch” pattern. I think I like it because it looks like a faded version of Chevron stripes.

I’ve recently purchased two chairs with this pattern to be used in the veterans’ home. The first is an easy chair with shades of blue, navy, and purple. The other is a rocking chair with a peach and coral color pattern. They’re so pretty and I think they add such spunk to a space!

I did some research about Bargello needlework and found that the name “Bargello” comes from a set of chairs in France that had this pattern, thus it has been known as Bargello since then.

Traditional designs are very colorful, and use many hues of one color, which produces intricate shading effects. The patterns are naturally geometric, but can also resemble flowers or fruits. This is a difficult stitch to master because of the layering required to achieve the multi-hued look.

Four Things Friday

Woo, it’s been a long week! I hope y’all have had a great week! Take some time this weekend to check out this stuff I found around the Web…

1. I loved this article about how to decorate a studio apartment. Great ideas for making the most of out of your small spaces.

2. Campaign dressers are my second favorite furniture obsession (the first being Chesterfield sofas). This one is so amazing!

3. I’ve finally found the perfect way to use maps as wallpaper! This was in House Beautiful and I’m madly in love. Must try it soon!

4. The print on this chair is FABULOUS. Not sure I would match it to the curtains, but it’s so funky and fun!

Four Things Friday

Cheers to the weekend, y’all! These next couple of weeks are going to be insane for me, so you’ll notice I’ll only be posting about 2-3 times a week for the next two weeks. I promise as soon as life slows down a bit, I’ll be back and better than ever! :)

Here are some things I’m loving…

1. These stencil patterned porches are to die for!

2. The next time I find a cheap chandelier, I’m definitely spray painting it to look like these beauties!

3. I never thought about using scrapbook paper as a way to jazz up a plain cabinet, but this is too cute! I’m in love and want to try it immediately.

4. This desk is such a cool way to repurpose a baby crib.

Summer Means Ikat Fabric!

As the weather heats up and my schedule gets busier, I’m itching for summer to get here! Even if you no longer get a “summer break” like you once did during your school days, summer means slowing down to enjoy the pleasures that only this glorious season can bring – dining outside, wearing sandals, eating watermelon, trips to the beach, and fireworks on the Fourth of July.

That being said, I thought I’d share my recent home decor obsession with you. It’s what’s giving me a little bit of summer in my life right now: ikat fabric.

Pronounced “ee-kaht”, this beautiful, classy version of tie dye is a method of weaving that uses a resist dyeing process. This process creates the geometric designs that appear to bleed and blur onto the fabric. I’m loving it on pillows and cushions. Placed on a neutral colored couch, these ikat pillows will add plenty of punch.

I think this will be just the trick to hold me over until summer’s officially here!
