Four Things Friday

It’s been such a long week, y’all! Though we had Labor Day off, it still felt like the week was dragging on. But no more complaining…the weekend is here! I’m going swimming with the manatees tomorrow and I can’t wait! I’m a native Floridian, but I’ve never swam with the manatees, can you believe it? Do you have any big weekend plans?

Check out this stuff that I’m loving!

1. Umm, this is genius. I would have never thought to repurpose a tire in this way. So durable!

2. I’m  co-hosting a Halloween party and I’m dying to do this to the chandelier. So creepy, but so creative!

3. Using an old dining room table as a desk. This would be the perfect place to spread out all of my design books!

4. My love for Hobby Lobby has been well-documented. While I greatly admire that they are closed on Sundays for religious purposes, I always feel I’m most inspired on Sundays and can’t put my great ideas into action because they’re closed! So this eCard made me laugh out loud.

Fourth of July Friday

Okay, y’all, I know this is a break from my standard “Four Things Friday” post, but I wanted to share the great tablescape my mom and I created for our Fourth of July celebration.

The Fourth of July is my second favorite holiday (Christmas is my first…duh!), and I love the red, white, and blue color scheme that symbolizes our nation and her birthday! In this tablescape, I used a lot of navy and white with very few red accents (the only red came from the tomatoes in the basket and the red, white, and blue striped ribbon around the Mason jars).

First, the tablecloths were used at my brother’s high school graduation party about five years ago, so we dug them out and used them again! Having them slanted diagonally really made for an eye-catching display. The square blue chargers were from Goodwill for a whopping $3.06 a plate.

We already had the white plates, the silver, and the Mason jars (who doesn’t love to put flowers in a Mason jar or sip sweet tea from one?)  The napkins are actually bandanas that were purchased from Hobby Lobby for $1.99 a piece, but since we bought them the day before the Fourth, we received an additional 30% off!

The pewter vases were the same ones I used for Savana’s baby shower in June (purchased at Goodwill). I cut white carnations into low bunches and used them as our centerpieces. I really love the way the carnations look with their big blooms because they remind me of exploding fireworks.

The baskets were also $3.06 at Goodwill. The navy blue ribbon (which isn’t visible here), can be removed and replaced with any color or printed ribbon you would like for another occasion (I’m thinking a mint green for Easter time). The red tomatoes served as both a still life and as an ingredient in our Caprese salad we later enjoyed at dinner.

Happy Birthday, America!

Baby Shower Photos!

I’ve been telling y’all for a few weeks that my childhood friends and I were going to be hosting a baby shower for our best friend, Savana. She’s expecting a baby girl in the fall and we couldn’t be more excited to have a new addition to our group of ladies!

I volunteered to do the decorations for the shower, and I quickly began looking for photos to use as inspiration when decorating. I wanted it to be a sophisticated and elegant baby shower using various shades of pink. I found this picture on Pinterest and knew I had to replicate it somehow.

I found the striped pink straws on Etsy and, since we were having round tables instead of long banquet tables, I decided to use pink and white striped table runners rather than place mats. I purchased the pink and white polka dot fabric from JoAnn Fabrics and had a friend of mine make them into napkins.

The pewter bud vases were purchased at Goodwill (13 for $36.00…a steal for pewter!) and I bought carnations, cut them down, and bunched them together to look like one large flower (and there was a special on carnations…3 bouquets for $12.00!) The lanterns were borrowed from a good friend who used them in her wedding and had purchased them at IKEA for $6.50 a piece.

The pink chevron cards contained a little letter that guests could fill out to write a cute note to Savana, her husband, Kyle, and the baby. Our friend, Katy, took pictures of us with chalkboard messages to the baby (my fellow hostesses and I had, “Call us when you miss curfew!”) that will be compiled into a scrapbook for the new baby. It was such a cute idea and I told Katy I’m going to keep that idea in mind for any future baby showers I host.

I’m so thrilled with the way it turned out! It was a beautiful day and so special to celebrate Savana, Kyle, and their baby girl!

Four Things Friday

Happy Friday to y’all! What are your plans for the weekend? Some of my good friends and I are hosting a baby shower for one of our longtime friends…I can’t wait to share pictures of the decor with y’all! I’ve been carefully planning and plotting for the past two months to make sure everything looks perfect.

Here are some things I’m loving from around the Web…

1. My little brothers and I always made blanket forts around our home when we were younger. Ours never looked this good, though!

2. This DIY tutorial looks so easy to do! Goodness, what would the world be like without spray paint?

3. This bed looks so neat, but what if you move a lot when you sleep? Makes me nervous!

4. I was recently shopping at Target and saw these amazing bedding items. I think it’s time to do a bedding overhaul for me! Excuse the black bands…I couldn’t move them out of the way without undoing the entire packaging!
