You may have seen inklings of my big news on Twitter and Facebook over the last few weeks, but I wanted to officially announce it here! On October 22, Nifty Thrifty Decorator will officially be known as Splendid Spaces and can be found at www.splendid-spaces.com. The site will be completely redone and feature more pictures, DIY tutorials, and much, much more! I’m so so so excited about this…I can’t wait for y’all to see what it will look like!

Mr. Lodzinski held an exhibition of his art work this summer and I fell in love with this piece. I loved the colors, but most of all, I loved the name of the piece. Entitled “Skipping School,” you can notice that one fish (the red one) is swimming against the other fish who are all going the same direction. Being the literary nerd that I am, I loved the play on words and meanings. I’m a big believer in going against the current, so I loved that this piece of art represents this.

My dad and Mr. Lodzinski are great friends, and unfortunately, he was unable to make the exhibition. I was sending him photos of his work via text message and I told him how much I liked this particular piece.

He loved it, too, and I thought my brothers and I should purchase it for him for Father’s Day. By the time I conferred with my brothers, however, the painting had already been sold. I was so bummed!

Cut to a month later. I came home from what had been a long, disheartening day and there on my bed was the exact painting I had wanted to get my dad! He was the buyer of the painting and bought it for me as a surprise! I was so thrilled and I cannot wait to properly hang it in my new apartment.

Here are some things I’m loving…

1. If I had a little girl, I would love to frame this print and put it in her room. My grandmother used to read Eloise to me, so I’ve been in love with her for forever.

2. This is such a cool bathtub, but what do you when the water splashes all over the walls?

3. With all the bridal showers I plan, I definitely intend to use this easy DIY centerpiece idea. Cheap and easy!

4. I want to make this dip-dye art. It makes me so happy just looking at it!

She made the wreath herself with supplies from our local craft store for a grand total of around $10.00. The color combination of the flowers and pumpkins, along with the adorable wreath, make this my favorite autumn door. Yay for Fall!

I was walking around her home the other day, and I fell madly in love with this reading nook she created. It sits just off her kitchen and living room area, and it’s the perfect place to curl up and read a book! She’s thinking about staining wooden pallets to use as bookshelves above the chairs, and I can’t wait to help her. I am obsessed with how cheery and inviting this space looks.

The armchairs are such a great color and the rug makes everything pop. Her sisters suggested she accents the space with saffron-colored pillows, and it really makes everything come together. IN LOVE!

Her style was characterized by her penchant for masculine clothing such as vests, blazers, and ties. She layered all of these together to create what is known as “the Annie Hall look.”

As a huge fan of fashion, I’ve always loved menswear looks for women. Slightly androgynous and definitely unexpected, these looks at some “spice” to the fashion world.

I began to wonder what Annie Hall’s home would look like if she applied her personal clothing style to her interior decor. I think everything would be sleek and streamlined, but there’d be some slightly funky elements, too, such as a vignette of special objects or abstract photographs (for some reason, I picture her with Diane Arbus photos hanging in her living room). Her color palette would definitely be various shades of white and black throughout her entire home.

One Sunday afternoon, as she unloaded the dishwasher, Gretchen Rubin felt hit by a wave of homesickness. Homesick—why? She was standing right in her own kitchen. She felt homesick, she realized, with love for home itself. “Of all the elements of a happy life,” she thought, “my home is the most important.” In a flash, she decided to undertake a new happiness project, and this time, to focus on home.

And what did she want from her home? A place that calmed her, and energized her. A place that, by making her feel safe, would free her to take risks. Also, while Rubin wanted to be happier at home, she wanted to appreciate how much happiness was there already.

So, starting in September (the new January), Rubin dedicated a school year—September through May—to making her home a place of greater simplicity, comfort, and love.

I can’t wait to read it! Her Happiness Project greatly affected me, so I know this book will do the same. Will y’all check it out?
