Four Things Friday

Yay, it’s Friday! And, even better…it’s a three day weekend! What are your Memorial Day plans? Remember to thank a veteran and remember those who have given their lives to allow us to live freely in this amazing country!

Here are some fun things I’ve found around the Web…

1. These stairs go along with my earlier post about mirrored backsplashes. I’m obsessed!

2. I hate to camp, but this makeshift tent looks so comfy and relaxing. Maybe I’ll set one up for myself to read under this weekend.

3. One of my favorite cities in the entire world is Charleston, South Carolina. I LOVE this print. This print is by Julia Rothman who makes fabulous prints and illustrations for a variety of publications.

4. These flowers make me super excited about summer coming around the corner.

C is for Craftsman Style Homes

These homes are so adorable! Craftsman style homes, or bungalows (don’t you just love that word?) are characterized by their simple lines, clean style, and use of natural materials. You can identify a Craftsman home by its low-pitched roof, numerous windows, large porch, and exposed beams on the interior.

I think my favorite part of a Craftsman style home is the large porch. As a Southern girl, I love rocking chairs and porch swings, so a wide porch would provide ample room for these vital porch accessories. These homes just look so cozy!

B is for Backsplash

Okay, readers, honest question: Do you know what the tile, slate, or wall underneath your kitchen cabinets is called? If you don’t, it’s okay! I didn’t know it was known as “backsplash” until a few years ago. Backsplash can add so much personality to a kitchen. I cannot cook to save my life (I  once [...]

A is for Art Deco

Art Deco is one of my favorite design styles. I’m a huge fan of the ‘20s and ‘30s (The clothes! The hair! The Speak Easies!), and this style is an eclectic mix of design characteristics. It’s a delightful combination of glamour, modernity, and elegance all rolled into one. In researching Art Deco style, I learned [...]

It’s Back!!!

Last fall I started a “Decor ABCs” series  of posts that paired a design-related item, style, or issue with a corresponding letter of the alphabet (“A” is for Attic, “B” is for Bar, etc.). It was really successful and I had a ton of fun doing it, so I’m bringing it back! Starting this Monday, [...]

Four Things Friday

Woo, it’s been a busy week! I’m so excited for the weekend…I think I’m going to hit a couple of garage sales and paint a dresser that I’ve been meaning to re-do for a while. What are your plans? Here are some things I’m loving from around the Web… 1. How cool are these chairs? [...]

Midcentury Finds!

Midcentury Dresser

I’ve told y’all how much I like midcentury furniture in earlier posts, and I’m constantly on the lookout for midcentury pieces (think the furniture in Mad Men) when I shop thrift stores, garage sales, and antique shops. I found these pieces at a local thrift store — a two-piece set for only $100.00! I don’t [...]

Look What I Found!

TV Console for $99.00

I’m helping a good friend of mine decorate her first home and I’m so excited! I’ve been looking around at various thrift stores and consignment shops to find some items for them, and I think I hit the jackpot at our local Salvation Army. I can’t believe these amazing pieces are so well-made yet so [...]

Hobby Lobby Fabric! Who Knew?

Gray Chevron Striped Fabric

I have long been a huge fan of Hobby Lobby and their amazing selection of inexpensive accessories, furniture, and wall art. Their fabric selection has often been so-so until this past week! I went to grab some items I needed for an upcoming craft project, and I stopped by the fabric area to see what [...]

Do You Have a Recipe You Want to Share?

Calling all chefs! I am collecting recipes for my local Habitat for Humanity’s cookbook campaign. We are gathering recipes and compiling a cookbook that will then be sold to benefit Habitat’s Project Patriot effort. This Project Patriot campaign is designed to provide homes and home repairs to veterans living in the Marion County area. If [...]
